My sweet tooth and cravings can be insane but when looking at traditional choc slices with all the added sugars, this is just not it. I created this healthier chocolate slice recipe combining seeds and nuts with dates providing the sweetness that you don't even realise that what you are eating doesn't even have any chocolate in it! Perfect substitute if you want the sweet taste without the excess refined nasties.

What is even better is that this recipe is no bake and very simple to make. You just need to wait 20 minutes to set in the freezer before eating.

Ingredients
  • 12 dried pitted dates*
  • 1/4 C water**
  • 1/3 C coconut oil,
    melted
  • 1/8 C pine nuts
  • 2 tbsp maca powder
  • 1/8 C pumpkin seeds/pepitas
  • 1/8 sesame seeds
  • 1/2 C flaxseed meal
  • 1/4 C almonds
  • 1/4 C almond meal
  • 1/4 C chia seeds
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp golden syrup
Healthy no bake chocolate seed slice
Method
  1. Blend dates, water and 1/3 of the coconut oil until a chunky paste forms.
  2. Add in the pine nuts, maca powder, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, 1/3 of the flaxseed, almonds and almond meal and pulse until combined.
  3. Mix in the chia. Spread evenly into a pan and freeze while you prepare the topping.
  4. Combine the remaining coconut oil, remaining flaxseed, golden syrup and cocoa powder in a bowl. Spread evenly over base and pop into the freezer for 20 minutes or until firm. Slice and enjoy!
NOTES

*With dried dates, you will need to soak them in boiling hot water for 10 minutes and then drain them, prior to using them.

** Hot tip: use a portion of the water that you soaked the dates in. Use the water sparingly as you do not want to have a sloppy mess.

At the end, you should have a soft and fudgy slice that you can enjoy guilt free.
